Ok..cheesy title! :) I wanted to add some of the benefits of adding more protein to your diet.

Every single cell in the body contains protein. We need protein to live. Protein and amino acids are considered the building blocks of life. Why do we need protein so much? Let me tell you....

  • Protein helps provide energy for your body. Have you ever heard of someone drinking a protein shake before or after a workout? This is to replenish the protein that was lost during a workout or provide extra protein for the body to burn during a workout.

  • Protein helps to repair cells and also makes new cells in the body.

  • Protein is essential to young children and pregnant women.

How do we get all this protein you ask? You get protein from the foods you eat. When you eat protein-rich foods, the body breaks them down into amino acids. There are many things you can eat that provide protein including:

meat

poultry

eggs

fish

You can also get protein from non-animal sources such as:

soy

beans

nuts

some wheat products such as quinoa

Most adults should have 2-3 servings of protein per day. This is also dependent on your body weight, health and age.

Can we have to much protein? Is that bad for you?

Well, yes. You can see some damages from ingesting to much protein. Too much protein can lead to liver damage, gout, gastrointestinal problems, diarrhea, drops in blood pressure, and damage to the kidneys.

Protein is just one of the macronutrients that the body needs. If you are unsure about how much protein you should be consuming everyday, book your free consultation with Living Lighter Health and Wellness and we can guide you along the way. We will teach you about the body's macro nutrients and how much is needed for each one. We are here to help you.
